| Abstract (German): | Öffentlich finanzierte Forschung auch für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen, zählt ebenso zum Selbstverständnis des Demokratiezentrums Wien wie das Schaffen von Räumen und Angeboten, die nicht nur auf unmittelbare (wirtschaftliche) Verwertbarkeit abzielen, sondern sich mit Strukturen und Mechanismen der Gesellschaft und eines politischen Systems beschäftigen. Diese Räume können und sollen sich, wie die Autorin des vorliegenden Beitrags weiter ausführt, nicht ausschließlich an „Marktlogiken“ orientieren, sondern sie bedürfen einer grundlegenden Absicherung durch die öffentliche Hand. Neben einer Skizzierung des Demokratiezentrums Wien eröffnet der Beitrag einen Einblick in die Auseinandersetzung dieses interdisziplinären, außeruniversitären Instituts mit aktuellen Fragen und Aufgaben Politischer Bildung und Lebenslangen Lernens. | Abstract (English): | Besides making publicly funded research available to the general public, the Democracy Centre Vienna prides itself on creating spaces and course offerings that not only aim for direct (economic) applicability but are also concerned with structures and mechanisms of society and a political system. As the author of this article elaborates, these spaces can and should not be oriented exclusively to “the logic of the market”; instead, they require basic support from the public sector. Along with a sketch of the Democracy Centre Vienna, the article provides insight into how this interdisciplinary institute situated outside the university system is involved with current issues as well as political education and lifelong learning.
