Abstract (English):This longitudinal study investigates different aspects of musical development of German students (n = 334) in secondary schools across one school year. Musical self-concept and musical sophistication, as well as several other music-specific and demographic variables, were assessed at three different points in time in addition to the target variable interest in music as a school subject. Sequence pattern analyses identified two, respectively four, different developmental trajectories for the constructs musical self-concept and musical sophistication. Taken together, these gave rise to two general developmental trajectories. A subsequent multilevel analysis showed that the identified two general developmental trajectories affect students’ interest in music as a school subject. (DIPF/Orig.)
