Abstract (English):On the basis of ethnographic records, group discussions, and expert interviews with institutional actors and addressees of selection processes, procedural selection practices at "exclusive" secondary schools, "excellent" private universities, and graduate schools are reconstructed. In this, the article focuses on selection decisions at diverse educational levels and on how specific aspects of admission interviews contribute to the production and legitimation of an organizational selection decision. The key issue here is the authenticity attributed to the applicant in the selection interview, which constitutes a prerequisite for negotiating the respective suitability and matching of the applicant. Techniques for examining and organizationally integrating authenticity are reconstructed by the authors as essential parts of selection processes at universities and "exclusive" secondary schools which ultimately produce and legitimize an organizational decision on the applicant's admission to the organization.
