Abstract (English):The TEDS-M items for measuring pedagogical beliefs of pre-service teachers associate, on the one hand, so-called transmission-oriented instruction with rote learning, and, on the other hand, so-called construction-oriented instruction with deep learning. Hence it comes as no surprise that teacher education programs lead to a strengthening of the «constructivist» orientation and to a rejection of the «transmission» orientation. Our paper argues critically that this TEDS-M measuring instrument has a blind spot as to the possibility of high-quality expository teaching.
