Abstract (English):The demise of existing socialist systems occasions a reconsideration of the general basic argumentative structure of socialist education. The author examines both the moral, religiously imbued claim of socialism in the nineteenth century and the concept of "socialist education". He then characterizes the relation between "education" and "society" as non-instrumental and shows that the objectives of "socialist education" are rooted in a misleading imagery; he finally extends these findings to the concept of utopia in modern pedagogics. It is his thesis that the development of utopian concepts is unavoidable in Western culture but that, in future, it has to reckon with an altered and - especially with regard to the plausibility of these visions of the future – dangerous concept of education.
